Mangaluru: St Aloysius University holds 146th Annual Athletic meet

Mangaluru, Dec 26: The 146th Annual Athletic Meet of St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), was conducted with great enthusiasm and a vibrant sporting spirit on December 22 at the Mangala Stadium.

The inaugural ceremony was graced by Sucheta Deb Burman, Aquawoman of India, as the chief guest. The programme was presided over by Fr Melwin J Pinto SJ, rector, St Aloysius Institutions, along with Dr Praveen Martis SJ, vice chancellor, St Aloysius (Deemed to be University).

As part of the inaugural proceedings, prizes for the march past were awarded, recognising the discipline, coordination, and teamwork displayed by the participating contingents. The formal inauguration was followed by a wide range of track and field events, efficiently organized for both students and staff, highlighting athletic talent, endurance, and exemplary sportsmanship.

Adding colour and excitement to the meet, flash mob competitions were conducted exclusively for students. The energetic and creative performances brought vibrancy to the event and were well appreciated by both the audience and the judges.

The valedictory programme commenced with Dr Charles V Furtado, director of the Administrative Block, St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), gracing the occasion as the chief guest. Sucheta Deb Burman served as the guest of honour, while Dr Praveen Martis SJ, vice chancellor, presided over the valedictory function.

On this occasion, retiring staff members were felicitated in recognition of their dedicated and meritorious service to the institution. Prizes were distributed to the winners of various athletic events, along with awards for the flash mob competition, celebrating excellence, enthusiasm, and participation.

The programme concluded with the lowering of the college flag, followed by the guest of honour formally declaring the meet closed.

The 146th Annual Athletic Meet stood as a true celebration of physical fitness, unity, discipline, and the rich sporting tradition of St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru.
