Puttur, Dec 16: In a heart-wrenching incident that occurred on the evening of Saturday, December 15 at Moolethadka of Kolthige village near here, two girls died after they fell into a watering trough.

The unfortunate victims of this incident are Prajna (12), daughter of Guddappa Gowda and Sanjana (9), daughter of Damodar Gowda, both residents of Kempugudde of Kolthige village. Guddappa Gowda and Damodar Gowda are brothers. Prajna was a student of seventh standard and Sanjana was studying in the fourth standard in Perlampady government higher primary school. Both the girls have excelled in their academics and Prajna was the school pupil leader.

On the evening of Saturday, after arriving from school both the girls had gone out of the house playing together. As they did not return even after late evening, the family members started searching for them. Their bodies were found in the water trough in the farmland of nearby resident Uday Bhat.

It is suspected that the children who probably ventured near the water trough out of curiosity, must have fallen into it accidentally. A case about the incident is registered in Bellare police station. Both the bodies are sent to the government hospital for post mortem.
