Venzy Viegas seeks solution to save Cavelossim house from demolition

Cavelossim, Oct 3: Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas has made a last-ditch effort to save a house belonging to a family from Cavelossim from demolition by contacting representatives of the online company that purchased the property.

Residents of Cavelossim, along with Cavelossim Sarpanch Dixon Vaz, called on Viegas at his office seeking his intervention after the family occupying the house was given time until the weekend to demolish the structure and submit a report to the High Court next week.

Viegas questioned how the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) had prepared its report on the structure when, according to him, no demarcation of the River Sal had been carried out by the authority.

“My information reveals that the river has entered the mainland by at least 10 metres. This was never reflected in the GCZMA report. If the GCZMA had conducted the demarcation, the structure in question would not have faced the sword of Damocles,” he said.

Viegas said he had spoken to representatives of the online company that purchased the property and urged them to work out an amicable solution to prevent the demolition of the house.

The MLA also issued a stern warning against casino gambling in Cavelossim, saying there was no place for casinos in the area. He alleged that casinos bring associated social problems, including drugs and prostitution.

The MLA's intervention comes as the family faces the prospect of demolishing the structure before the matter is reported before the High Court next week.
