Frankfurt: Konkani Kutam of Germany celebrates Nativity feast

Media Release

Frankfurt, Sep 12: Konkani Kutam of Germany united once again to celebrate the birthday of beloved Mother Mary with great pomp and gusto at St Christophorous Church, Frankfurt on September 9. The event witnessed the presence of around 170 members from all over Germany and other parts of Europe.

The celebration commenced at 11:00 am with the congregation singing hymns, offering flowers and venerating the statue of Mother Mary in the church compound. Thereafter, the Eucharist was celebrated by Fr John Baptist Sequeira from Italy. Fr Jephrin Monis from Stuttgart, Fr Edwin Rodrigues and Fr Peter were the concelebrants.

The enriching homily delivered by the main celebrant emphasized the theme ‘Hail Mary’ – vessel of God’s grace and the spiritual mother of the Catholic Church. The melodious choir led by Bethany sisters made the Eucharistic celebration spiritually edifying. The offertory procession was made meaningful with the offering of home grown vegetables by community members.

After the mass, a social gathering and entertainment programme was organized in the church hall. It was a great opportunity for new members to mingle and get acquainted with older ones. Sr Stephanie Ghonsalves, Missionary Sisters of the Queen of the Apostles, welcomed and mesmerized the audience with her graceful Indian classical dance. A banquet of home cooked Mangalurean delicacies was served for lunch followed by some delicious payasam and jalebi as dessert.

The afternoon was truly entertaining with song, dance, games, Konkani skits, an auction of the vegetables and our favorite housie. Everyone grooved to the beats of the music played by DJ Stephen Lobo. It was indeed a day of fun and frolic. The fantastic turn out from the members and the effort and willingness of the core committee members to put this event together made it a great success.
