New Delhi, Jan 29 (PTI): The Central Bureau of Investigation has registered a case against two people for cheating, criminal conspiracy and under the Information Technology Act for allegedly duping the public online by misusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's name.
The case was registered after the CBI conducted a preliminary inquiry on a complaint from the Prime Minister's Office about a fictitious institute, the Narendra Modi Computer Saksharta Mission (NMCSM), trying to dupe the public by offering computer courses and franchise deals.
The duo had created a website www.nmcsm.in and tried to collect money. The CBI on Friday carried outraids at two places at Kasanganj in Uttar Pradesh and recovered "incriminating documents," the agency said.
The PMO had filed the complaint in June and the preliminary inquiry was registered by the special crime branch of the CBI in September. The inquiry concluded that it was an online fraud, the CBI said, while naming the accused as Atul Kumar and Jagmo-han Singh, who "claimed themselves to be president and secretary of the institute, respectively".
