Mumbai, Jul 3: Just when the Mumbaikars were getting relief from heat with the help of welcome showers, the rain gods appeared to have been a bit too generous.
Torrential rains lashing the city right through Sunday night up to Monday morning made the citizens totter. Holiday was declared for schools and educational institutions well ahead and in anticipation.
Low-lying areas were water-logged and traffic was blocked at many points. Heavy overcast gave the city a gloomy ambience. People needing to go to offices, shops and other places were stranded where they were.
Train services, flights and buses were delayed. Railway lines at Kurla, Sion-King's Circle, Parel, Santa Cruz, Vile Parle, Andheri, Jogeshwari, Goregaon, Malad, Kandivali were covered by water. Poor visibility resulted in delays in arrivals and departures at domestic and international airports.
The Met authorities have forecast continued heavy rains in coming 48 hours and have requested the citizens to exercise caution in wheatever way possible. The sea is expected to be very rought. The BMC authorities are taking all precautions to meet with emergency situations.
The citizens are reminded of the rains that hit Mumbai on July 26, 2005.
