Mumbai, Nov 6: Fresh developments have emerged over a possible merger of the two Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) factions, with sources indicating that the Ajit Pawar-led camp is keen on reuniting the two groups in Maharashtra.
The faction led by Sunil Tatkare and Praful Patel is reportedly in favour of the merger, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is also said to be keen on bringing the Sharad Pawar-led NCP (SP) into the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). However, Sunetra Pawar and Parth Pawar are reportedly opposed to the proposal, leaving uncertainty over the possibility of a united NCP.

The developments come after Praful Patel visited Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai on Thursday evening to enquire about the health of senior leader Sharad Pawar, who is undergoing treatment.
According to sources, Patel and Sharad Pawar discussed the possibility of merging the two NCP factions during their meeting. They also reportedly discussed a message conveyed to Sharad Pawar by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
With Sharad Pawar facing repeated hospital admissions, questions have emerged over whether Sunetra Pawar and Parth Pawar will eventually support the growing demand for a united party.
Possible political gains for BJP
A merger could offer political advantages to the BJP, potentially bringing the support of eight key MPs from the NCP (SP) camp and strengthening its position in Parliament.
Sharad Pawar is also among the senior leaders of the INDIA bloc. His possible entry into the NDA could deal a setback to the opposition alliance and affect its efforts to challenge the ruling coalition.
The proposed merger could also bring political and ministerial opportunities for the Sharad Pawar-led faction. According to sources, Supriya Sule, Sharad Pawar's daughter, could be considered for a Cabinet position, while her political future may become more secure within a united NCP.
Senior NCP leader Jayant Patil could also be considered for the Finance portfolio in the Maharashtra Cabinet, sources indicated.
Sharad Pawar was admitted to Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital after developing a cough and infection, with his doctor reportedly describing symptoms similar to bronchitis. He is undergoing treatment and is said to be in stable condition.
Earlier, he had been discharged from Pune's Ruby Hall Clinic, where he had been admitted for two days. During that hospitalisation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had called to enquire about his health.
Vitthal Maniyar, a close friend of Sharad Pawar, had told the media that Modi conveyed a message during the conversation, saying that Supriya Sule was ready and that they were prepared to take care of the country. He also reportedly advised Pawar not to worry about the country and to concentrate on his health.
