Jarange challenges Fadnavis, Shinde over audio clip

Mumbai, Oct 25: Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange Patil has challenged Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to uncover the truth behind an audio clip that has triggered a political controversy in the state.

The audio clip has sparked a war of words between Shiv Sena leader Ramdas Kadam and BJP leaders, with both sides trading allegations. Senior leaders have reportedly advised party members to exercise restraint, and the exchanges have since eased.

Speaking to the media, Jarange alleged that attempts were being made to suppress the Maratha reservation agitation and questioned why leaders from both parties were now appearing to tone down their accusations over the audio clip.

He claimed that if the clip were proved authentic, it would benefit him and the Maratha community. He also questioned whether the two parties were attempting to close ranks to prevent the truth from emerging.

Jarange said Shinde should have questioned why efforts were allegedly being made to suppress the agitation, particularly when members of the Maratha community had supported him politically. He also questioned whether Fadnavis, too, would stand by the community after receiving its support.

The activist alleged that discussions were taking place behind the scenes to discredit the audio clip and protect those allegedly involved in a conspiracy against the Maratha agitation. However, he said he would speak further when more evidence became available.

Jarange expressed hope that Fadnavis would ensure a thorough investigation through the Special Investigation Team (SIT), including proper forensic examination of the audio recording. He also urged Shinde to monitor the investigation and help establish whether the clip was genuine.

He said the truth must be brought before the public, adding that both leaders had an opportunity to demonstrate their credibility by ensuring a transparent investigation.

The controversy intensified after Jarange brought the audio clip into the public domain, prompting allegations and counter-allegations between leaders of the two parties. The authenticity of the recording and the claims surrounding it remain matters for investigation.
