Senior priest of Mangalore diocese Fr John Noronha passes away at 82

Mangaluru, Oct 1: Fr John Noronha, a senior priest of the Diocese of Mangalore, passed away on Thursday, October 1, at St Zuze Vaz Home in Jeppu. He was 82.

Born on April 2, 1944, in Pamboor, Fr Noronha was the son of Mathias and Anjeline Noronha. Following his religious calling, he was ordained as a priest for the Diocese of Mangalore on December 3, 1969.

Throughout his extensive pastoral career spanning over four decades, Fr Noronha served various parishes and institutions with dedication. His early ministry included tenures as assistant parish priest at Agrar (1969–1971), Kirem (1971–1974), and Madanthyar (1974–1976).

He later assumed the role of parish priest for several communities across the region, including Kuppepadav (1976–1982), Uppinangady (1982–1988), Kolalgiri (1989–1996), Ranipura (1996–2003), and Mt Rosary, Kallianpur (2003–2010). Additionally, he served as the chaplain at Rosamistica Convent between 1988 and 1989. After a lifetime of active pastoral duties, Fr Noronha retired in 2010 and spent his later years residing at St Zuze Vaz Home.

The funeral mass and final rites will be held on Monday, October 5, at 10 am at St Vincent Ferrer Church in Valencia, Mangaluru.
