Mumbai, Sep 27: A magnitude 3.6 earthquake struck Maharashtra's Palghar district late Saturday night, with tremors reported in the Talasari-Dahanu region, officials said.

The earthquake occurred at 10.33 pm on September 26, with the National Centre for Seismology (NCS) recording its epicentre at a depth of around 5 km. The epicentre was located at approximately 20.047° north latitude and 72.974° east longitude, according to NCS data reported by news agencies.

The tremor was felt in parts of Palghar district, including Talasari and Dahanu. A local report said some residents came out of their homes after feeling the shaking, although there were no reports of casualties or structural damage.

"There is no case of any injury or damage to houses," Vivekanand Kadam, chief of the district Disaster Management Cell, said.

Local authorities were monitoring the situation following the tremor and urged residents to remain calm and follow standard earthquake safety precautions. There were no reports of damage to buildings or other property, according to officials.

The tremor was relatively shallow, with its depth recorded at about 5 km. Palghar has experienced low-intensity seismic activity in the past. The National Centre for Seismology's records, for instance, include a magnitude 3.1 earthquake in Palghar at a depth of 5 km in January 2026.

Authorities continue to keep watch over the affected area and have advised residents not to panic and to follow official instructions in case of any further seismic activity.
