Mumbai, Sep 26: Sony Entertainment Television’s popular singing reality show Indian Idol is returning with its 17th season, with singer-composer Himesh Reshammiya making a comeback to the judging panel.

The makers unveiled the first promo of Indian Idol 17: Legends Return on September 25, offering viewers a glimpse of the upcoming season and the contestants’ musical journey.

Reshammiya has been associated with Indian Idol for several seasons and has previously served as a judge in Seasons 11, 12 and 13. His return in the 17th season will see the singer-composer once again evaluate and mentor aspiring singers on the show.

Sharing the promo on social media, the makers wrote, “Indian Idol is baar likhega apni sabse badi history. Taiyaar ho jaiye Indian Idol ke new season ke liye, sirf Sony Entertainment aur Sony LIV par.”

The promo focuses on the contestants, their aspirations and the challenges they face as they compete for a place in the competition. The makers are yet to announce the premiere date and timings of the new season.

Indian Idol 17 will air on Sony Entertainment Television and stream digitally on the SonyLIV application.

The previous season, Indian Idol 16, was won by Odisha’s Jyotirmayee Nayak, who took home the trophy and a cash prize of Rs 20 lakh. Anshika Chonkar, Manraj Veer Singh, Suhail Sufi and Tanishk Shukla were the other finalists.

Indian Idol 16 premiered in October 2025 with the theme ‘Yaadon Ki Playlist’. The grand finale was held on July 25 and 26, 2026, with Aditya Narayan as host and Shreya Ghoshal, Vishal Dadlani and Badshah on the judging panel.
