Panaji, Sep 17: The Directorate of Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) has informed that the North Goa District Magistrate has imposed a total penalty of Rs 5.6 lakh on five food business operators for allegedly selling misbranded and sub-standard food products.

According to an official report, the establishments were found operating without valid FSSAI licences and were also found maintaining unhygienic practices. The penalties, ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 2 lakh, were imposed on businesses and food operators based in Goa, Gujarat and Karnataka.

A penalty of Rs 2 lakh was imposed on M/s Shree Chemfood Pvt. Ltd., Kutchh, Gujarat, for selling misbranded and sub-standard iodised salt.

Dharwad Mishra Pedha and Food Processing Industry, Dharwad, Karnataka, was fined Rs 50,000 for selling loose Motichoor Laddoo.

A penalty of Rs 1 lakh was imposed on Shri Nitin Wadhwa, partner of M/s Dias Club, Gaum Vaddi, Anjuna, Bardez, for selling food articles without a valid FSSAI State licence.

M/s Jagarnath Salt Pvt. Ltd., Surendranagar, Gujarat, was fined Rs 2 lakh for selling misbranded and sub-standard Taza Shuddh Salt.

Meanwhile, Smt. Pooja Prajapati of M/s Ganesh Goa Sweet Corner, Merces, was fined Rs 10,000 for selling sub-standard quality Mysore Pak.

The action was taken following proceedings concerning violations of food safety and licensing requirements under the applicable food safety regulations.
