Mangaluru, Aug 28: Marking the spirit of service and solidarity on the occasion of Independence Day, St Milagres Credit Souharda Co-Operative Society Ltd Karwar Branch – Hampankatta, organised an essential items distribution programme at St. Agnes Special School, Mangaluru, on Friday, August 28.

The programme was inaugurated by former Mangaluru South MLA J R Lobo, in the presence of eminent academician and social worker Maria D’Costa, engineer and valuer Naresh Kini, principal of St Agnes Special School Sister Maria Jyothi A C, teaching staff, representatives of St Milagres Souharda Credit Co-operative Society and the students of the institution.

Speaking on the occasion, J R Lobo appreciated the remarkable service rendered by St Agnes Special School in caring for and educating children with special needs. He said that while managing even two or three children can be a challenge for a family, bringing together around 200 children under one institution, providing them with education, care and fulfilling their various needs is a courageous and commendable effort.

He congratulated the principal, teaching staff and management for their dedicated service and appreciated St Milagres Souharda Co-operative Society for coming forward with a meaningful social initiative. He noted that sharing a portion of the organisation’s efforts and resources with those in need reflects the true spirit of service to society.

Maria D’Costa, in her address, expressed gratitude to St Milagres Souharda Credit Co-operative Society for choosing St Agnes Special School for the initiative. Describing the institution as a special place where children live with innocence and closeness to God, she appreciated the dedication, commitment and patience of the teachers and staff.

She congratulated the organisers and prayed for the continued growth and success of St Milagres Souharda Co-operative Society. She also acknowledged the service-oriented efforts of its management and staff in strengthening banking and community services.

Adding a special touch to the celebration, Prof Maria D’Costa also engaged with the children by teaching them an action song, creating a joyful and memorable moment for the students.

The programme concluded on a warm and positive note, with appreciation extended to the teaching staff of St Agnes Special School, the organisers and, most importantly, the students whose enthusiastic participation and disciplined presence contributed to the success of the event.

Through this initiative, St Milagres Souharda Credit Co-operative Society once again highlighted that true celebration lies not only in remembering the nation's freedom, but also in spreading care, dignity and support within the community.
