Kolkata, Aug 28: Three FIRs have been registered against TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee and two other party leaders, while 13 people have been arrested following a confrontation at the party's Camac Street office here, police said on Friday.

Banerjee, along with his private security personnel, office staff and TMC Rajya Sabha MP Derek O'Brien, allegedly scuffled with police and Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) officials while opposing their entry into the building to remove an "unauthorised" billboard.

The cases were registered based on complaints alleging obstruction of police personnel and KMC officials and issuing threats, a police officer said.

Banerjee, O'Brien and TMC leader Humayun Kabir have been named in the FIRs. One case was registered on the complaint of a KMC Advertisement Department official, while another followed a requisition from the civic body, the officer said.

The third FIR was registered based on a complaint by a police sergeant, who alleged that unidentified persons obstructed police personnel and snatched his government-issued walkie-talkie.

Police have so far arrested 13 people in connection with the incident. The identities of those arrested have not been disclosed.

The investigation into the incident is underway.
