Udupi, Aug 28: Lokayukta police conducted simultaneous raids on various taluk offices across Udupi district on Thursday. The teams inspected pending files at the offices and carried out checks throughout the day. The raids were conducted at all six taluk offices in the district, except Brahmavar.

Following a public complaint, the Karnataka Lokayukta had earlier registered a suo motu case and ordered an investigation. In this connection, six Lokayukta teams conducted simultaneous raids at the taluk offices in Udupi, Kundapur, Kapu, Hebri, Karkala and Baindur on Thursday, August 27.

The Brahmavar taluk office was excluded as a raid had been conducted there two months ago. The teams reportedly included two DySPs from Udupi and Mangaluru, one police inspector from Udupi, four police inspectors from Mangaluru and one police inspector from Karwar.

As there were complaints regarding land allotment to retired soldiers at Hebri taluk office, DySP Halamurthy instructed staff member Mahesh to provide information to the retired soldiers regarding the land allotment at the earliest and take necessary action.

The team found that 40 files were pending at various stages in the RRT section, 531 files under Section 94C, 2,700 files under Sections 53 and 57, and 27 files relating to birth and death registrations. The Lokayukta police said that many of the files had no stated reasons for the delay and that a report would be submitted to senior officials recommending disciplinary action against those concerned.

The inspection of pending files, delays in processing files and complaint petitions submitted by the public at the taluk office was carried out. The Lokayukta police are also said to have taken several files into their custody.

Lokayukta staff Nagesh Udupa, Nagaraj, Satish Handadi, Prasanna, Abdul Jalal and Sudeep were present.
