Kasargod: Patient dies, four injured as ambulance overturns near Bandiyod

Kasargod, Aug 26: A patient died and four others were injured after the ambulance they were travelling in lost control, hit a road divider, and overturned on the National Highway at Bandiyod late Tuesday night.

The deceased has been identified as Ashok (41), a KSEB contractor from Uppala and a resident of Adka near Bandiyod. The injured include his wife Prathibha, brother Rajesh, Rajesh's wife, and the ambulance driver. They have been admitted to a hospital in Kasargod for treatment.

According to details, Ashok was initially undergoing treatment for an illness at a private hospital in Uppala. As his health condition did not improve, he was being rushed to a private hospital in Kasargod for advanced medical care when the tragic accident occurred.

Following the mishap, a critically injured Ashok was rushed to the hospital in Uppala and later shifted to a hospital in Mangaluru. However, he breathed his last without responding to the treatment.

He is survived by his wife and his only son, Tanush.

I wouldn't claim that no ambulance drivers in India receive specialized training. There are organizations that require ambulance drivers to have driving qualifications and first-aid/basic-life-support training, for example. The bigger issue appears to be consistency, specialized emergency-vehicle driving training, enforcement and accountability.

    Absolutely right on what you have observed. Earlier there used to be a st. Christopher association which was handling first aid training etc . Nowadays dont know...

    Even most of the vehicles are not suitable for ambulances. Preferred low profile radial tyres would be much appreciated.
