Kasargod: Police raid Manjeshwar water bodies following hazardous swimming by youths

Kasargod, Jul 14: While overflowing water bodies during the monsoon season have become amusement spots for youths, they are causing immense anxiety among parents. Locals in the Manjeshwar gram panchayat limits have expressed severe concern over youths engaging in highly dangerous swimming stunts without any safety precautions at Bachalike, Idiya Papila, and the Govinda Pai dam areas.

Youths from local areas as well as distant places have been flocking to these spots to plunge into the gushing waters from heights and compete with each other recklessly. Adding to the gravity of the situation, there are serious allegations that these secluded spots are turning into hubs for illegal activities, including drug peddling.

Despite the police department issuing explicit orders banning swimming in these zones, visitors continue to flout the rules with impunity.

Taking swift action, the Manjeshwar police conducted a raid at the Bachalike pond and detained several individuals caught engaging in hazardous water stunts. Senior police officials noted that while enforcement drives will continue, parents must exercise strict vigilance over their children's whereabouts and activities during the monsoon season to avert tragedies.
