Aichi-Nagoya, Oct 3: Pranavi Urs created history on Saturday by becoming the first Indian woman golfer to win an Asian Games gold medal, holding her nerve through a tense final round to finish one stroke ahead of her nearest challengers.
The 23-year-old Mysuru golfer carded an even-par 70 in the final round to finish with a four-day total of 15-under 265 and claim the women's individual gold.
Urs had begun the final round with a three-stroke lead but faced an early setback when a triple bogey on the third hole erased her advantage. She responded strongly with three birdies to steady her round and remain in contention for the top spot.

Her victory marked India's first Asian Games golf gold since Shiv Kapur won the men's individual title in 2002 and made Urs the first Indian woman to win an Asian Games gold in golf.
Urs also played a key role in India's silver-medal finish in the women's team event. Alongside Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar, she helped India finish with a total of 14-under 546. Aditi carded a 67 and Diksha a 77 in the final round, with the two best scores counting towards the team standings.
China won the team gold with a total of 22-under 538, while India took silver.
Born in Bengaluru in 1998, Urs began playing golf at the age of five and emerged as one of India's promising golfers. In 2015, she became the first Indian to win the Ladies British Amateur Stroke Play Championship before turning professional in 2016.
