Udupi, July 4: A woman allegedly involved in honey-trapping and robbing wealthy businessmen at casinos has been arrested in connection with the mysterious death of Udupi-based entrepreneur Sandeep Salian.

The accused, identified as Akshata M K, alias Rupashree C, a native of Mangaluru, was arrested by Goa police in Bengaluru on the night of Friday, July 3, with the assistance of Karnataka Police.

Akshata was already under investigation in a case involving the robbery of a businessman through an alleged honey-trap scheme. She has now emerged as the prime accused in the murder of Sandeep Salian (42), a water sports entrepreneur from Malpe in Udupi district.

According to the police investigation, the accused allegedly targeted wealthy businessmen visiting casinos, lured them to hotels, rendered them unconscious, robbed them of cash and valuables, and later blackmailed them as part of the honey-trap operation.

Sandeep Salian had previously worked as a driver for a former Karnataka minister before leaving the job to establish a water sports business in Malpe. Within a short span, he built a successful enterprise and became a well-known entrepreneur in Udupi's water sports sector.

Police are continuing their investigation to establish the exact circumstances surrounding Salian's death and to determine whether others were involved in the crime.

Further details are awaited.
