Bihar, Jul 4: Determination, disciplined preparation, and the ability to learn from setbacks helped Pakshal Secretry secure All India Rank (AIR) 8 in the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination 2025, the results of which were announced on March 6, 2026. His achievement places him among the country's top performers in one of India's most competitive examinations.
The UPSC recommended 958 candidates for appointment to various civil services of the Government of India. Among them, Pakshal Secretry emerged as one of the highest-ranked candidates, inspiring thousands of civil services aspirants across the country.

Born in 2001 in Bagh, Bihar, Pakshal later moved to New Delhi to pursue his academic goals and prepare for the civil services examination. Raised by self-employed parents, he credits his family for instilling in him the values of hard work, discipline, and perseverance.
Growing up in a supportive environment encouraged him to pursue the dream of joining the civil services, a goal that demanded years of dedicated preparation.
Pakshal completed his Bachelor of Science (BSc) from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, where he distinguished himself not only academically but also through research and community service.
During his time at IIT Kanpur, he received the Director's Gold Medal for Excellence in Community Service. He was also honoured with the Best Paper Award for his research titled "New-New Trade Theory of International Trade," reflecting his keen interest in economics and public policy.
Pakshal's success did not come overnight. He appeared for the UPSC Civil Services Examination three times between 2023 and 2025 before finally securing AIR 8.
After unsuccessful attempts in the preliminary examination, he continued refining his strategy instead of giving up. In his third attempt, he cleared all stages of the examination with an outstanding performance.
His journey demonstrates that persistence, self-evaluation, and learning from previous attempts can significantly improve one's chances of success.
For the UPSC Mains Examination, Pakshal opted for Economics as his optional subject. His academic background at IIT Kanpur and his research in economics gave him a strong conceptual understanding of the subject.
His knowledge of economics also enhanced his ability to analyse policy issues, international trade, and economic development—areas that play an important role in the Civil Services Examination.
Pakshal followed a focused and disciplined study plan throughout his preparation. Instead of relying on rote learning, he concentrated on developing conceptual clarity and understanding the fundamentals of every subject.
Regular revision formed an essential part of his preparation, helping him retain information and improve recall during the examination.
He also devoted considerable time to answer-writing practice, enabling him to present structured, analytical, and well-balanced responses in the Mains examination.
Mentorship and frequent mock tests played an equally important role by helping him identify weaknesses, assess his progress, and fine-tune his preparation strategy.
Pakshal Secretry's journey offers several valuable lessons for UPSC aspirants. His success reinforces the importance of consistency over speed, continuous learning from failures, regular answer-writing practice, and seeking constructive guidance through mentors and mock tests.
From his humble beginnings in Bihar to securing AIR 8 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2025, Pakshal Secretry's story is one of resilience, dedication, and unwavering commitment.
His achievement serves as a powerful reminder that disciplined preparation, patience, and consistent effort can help aspirants overcome challenges and realise their dream of serving the nation through the civil services.
