Illegal tree felling busted in Beltangady, forest dept registers case

Beltangady, Jul 3: The Beltangady forest department conducted a raid and registered a case after catching a man allegedly felling a tree illegally on government land at Neriyakadu in Neriya village.

The raid was led by Beltangady range forest officer (RFO) Tyagaraj. During the operation, Rajappa Gowda, a resident of Amble, was allegedly found illegally cutting a hebbalasu tree.

Forest officials found that one hebbalasu tree had been felled and cut into pieces. During the raid, they seized 40 wooden planks and three timber logs prepared from the tree.

After obtaining the court's permission on July 2, the seized timber was taken into custody, and a case was registered under the jurisdiction of the Beltangady forest department. Further investigation is underway.
