Mangaluru, Jul 1: The body of a 45-year-old man, who had been missing since Tuesday morning, was found in the Gurupur river on Wednesday, July 1 evening.

The deceased Muhammad Ashraf Maliki was a resident of Urumane in Konaje.

It is gathered that Ashraf, who had recently built a new house, had lost his job and was staying at home for the past few days. When he failed to return home after leaving on Tuesday morning, a missing complaint was lodged at the Konaje police station.

On Wednesday morning, passersby noticed a two-wheeler parked near the Gurupura bridge and shared its details along with a photo on social media. Upon coming across the post, his family members rushed to the spot. A search operation was subsequently launched in the river, and his body was recovered in the evening.

A case has been registered at the Bajpe police station in this regard.

Mangaluru, Jul 1: A 40-year-old man who left home saying he was going to a mosque has gone missing under mysterious circumstances within the Konaje police station limits. His family has lodged a missing person complaint.

The missing man has been identified as Muhammad Ashraf, a resident of Mangalanthi Quarters in Manjanady village.

According to the complaint, Ashraf left his house on his scooter at around 4.30 pm on Tuesday, June 30, informing his family that he was going to Urumane Mosque and would return shortly. However, he neither reached the mosque nor returned home.

After searching for him at various places without success, his family approached the Konaje police station and filed a complaint. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to trace him.

Meanwhile, Ashraf's scooter was found abandoned on Gurpur bridge on the outskirts of the city. Following the discovery, Fire and Emergency Services personnel, along with local swimmers, have launched a search operation in the Phalguni (Gurpur) river.
