Multilingual singer Chandrahass Suvarna Thokkottu passes away

Ullal, Jun 30: Popular multilingual singer Chandrahass Suvarna Thokkottu (64), who dedicated over four decades to music and lent his voice to Tulu and Konkani stage productions, passed away at his residence in Thokkottu Kapikad on Monday following a brief illness.

Chandrahass had made singing his profession for nearly 40 years and was known for performing songs in Tulu, Kannada, Konkani, Beary, Hindi and Tamil languages.

He began his musical journey around four decades ago by providing playback voices for female lead characters in Tulu dramas. Since 1980, he had worked as a background singer for stage plays by renowned personalities including K N Taylor and Vijay Kumar Kodialbail.

Having performed in more than 5,000 musical programmes, Chandrahass earned a special place among music lovers across the region.

He emerged as the winner of the 'Konkani Sod-2' music competition organised by the ‘Mandd Sobhann’ organisation and was honoured with the title ‘Rai Kogul’ for his singing talent.

His demise has left the Tulu and Konkani cultural circles mourning the loss of a respected voice in the regional music scene.
