Mangaluru, June 29: Residents of Kulshekar have voiced serious concern over what they describe as MESCOM's negligence after thick creepers completely engulfed a high-tension electricity pole and overhead power lines near White Doves, barely half a mile from the MESCOM office within the Mangaluru City Corporation limits.

The overgrown creepers have wound themselves around the pole and high-tension wires, giving the structure the appearance of a pyramid. Residents questioned how such extensive vegetation could have been allowed to grow unchecked despite the location being in close proximity to the local MESCOM office.

They alleged that MESCOM officials and maintenance staff have turned a blind eye to the issue, even though the area is densely populated. According to residents, the neglected condition poses a serious safety hazard, warning that if a short circuit occurs and live wires snap and fall onto the road, it could have devastating consequences for pedestrians, motorists and people living in the neighbourhood.

Residents further pointed out that vegetation around electricity poles and transformers is required to be cleared regularly by line staff as part of routine maintenance. However, they said the unchecked growth of creepers around the high-tension pole reflects a glaring lapse in upkeep and monitoring by the power utility.

Urging immediate intervention, residents have called on MESCOM to remove the overgrowth without delay and carry out regular maintenance of power infrastructure to prevent any untoward incident.

Our mentality is to create and then forget just like animal world reproduces and leaves its young ones to fend for itself. But we don’t realize there is life on everything of it’s own and needs attention, care and maintenance. It’s the same with traffic lights, public toilets, streets and streets lights, parks etc etc list is endless……..Worst thing about is money set aside for maintenance just disappears without any routine maintenance again thinking ‘What Maintenance’

This is undoubtedly one of the worst power utility supplier around; this is a glaring example of how sloppyily they work! The recent proposal of the administration to give this entity's operations to a pvt company is in the right direction; it would trim the extra flab and streamline it's working to a verylarge extent, thus bringing in economies of scale which will be a win-win situation for both the administration and the unhappy consumers!!
