Mangaluru, Jun 29: In a shocking incident, a gang of seven unidentified miscreants intercepted the car of a Kerala-based businessman and fled with the vehicle along with 180 grams of gold at Baikampady during the early hours of Monday, June 29.

The victim, identified as Vikas, is a resident of Payyanur in Kerala and owns a jewellery shop in Sangli, Maharashtra. The crime took place around 2:15 am when Vikas, along with his wife and son, was travelling in their Swift car from Sangli to Payyanur.

As they reached near the Dwara Hotel at the Baikampady junction on National Highway 66, the accused, who arrived in an Innova car, blocked their path. The robbers forcibly pulled Vikas out of his vehicle and temporarily kidnapped his wife and son by driving off in the Swift car.

It is gathered that the gang drove towards the Panambur beach road, where they robbed a bag containing 180 grams of gold ornaments belonging to Vikas's wife. However, the robbers notably left the gold chain the lady was wearing untouched. The culprits then dumped the mother and son on the roadside and sped away in the victims' car.

A case of dacoity has been registered at the Suratkal police station. Police sources stated that they have obtained crucial clues regarding the incident, and dedicated teams are actively working on tracking down the accused and recovering the stolen vehicle and valuables.
