Texas, May 20: A man in Texas was arrested after allegedly driving a Tesla Cybertruck into Grapevine Lake in an apparent attempt to test the vehicle’s much-publicised “Wade Mode” feature, according to local police.

The incident took place near Katie’s Woods Boat Ramp at Grapevine Lake, where police officers responded to reports of a vehicle partially submerged in water.

Upon reaching the spot, authorities found the electric pickup truck stuck near the shoreline after it reportedly failed to return to land.

According to the Grapevine Police Department, the driver told officers that he had intentionally driven the Cybertruck into the lake to test the vehicle’s Wade Mode capability, a special feature designed to help the truck navigate shallow water and challenging terrain.

However, the experiment reportedly went wrong after the vehicle became disabled in the water and began taking in water.

Emergency crews from the Grapevine Fire Department assisted in the recovery operation, while a towing vehicle was later used to pull the Cybertruck out of the lake.

Police confirmed that no injuries were reported in the incident.

The driver was identified as Jimmy Jack McDaniel. Authorities said he now faces multiple charges, including operating a vehicle in a restricted section of a park, failing to possess valid boat registration and violating water safety regulations.

Tesla’s Wade Mode is an off-road setting introduced for the Cybertruck to improve performance while driving through shallow water, mud and rough terrain. The feature temporarily increases ride height and adjusts systems such as traction control and battery cooling.

However, Tesla guidelines reportedly specify that the maximum safe wading depth is around 32 inches and caution drivers not to allow water levels to rise above the vehicle’s bumper.
