Football world mourns young Ghanaian player after fatal team bus attack

New Delhi, Apr 14: FIFA president Gianni Infantino expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of young footballer Dominic Frimpong, who lost his life following a violent attack on his team’s bus.

The 20-year-old winger was part of Berekum Chelsea FC, which had been returning from a Ghana Premier League match against FC Samartex 1996 when the incident occurred.

According to reports, the team bus was ambushed by armed attackers who blocked the road. As the driver attempted to escape, chaos ensued, forcing players and staff to flee into nearby bushes. Frimpong sustained critical injuries during the ???? and was rushed to a hospital, where he later died while receiving treatment.

Infantino, speaking on behalf of the global football community, extended condolences to Frimpong’s family, friends, teammates, and all associated with his club, calling the incident deeply heartbreaking.

Support also came from Patrice Motsepe, president of the Confederation of African Football, who conveyed his sympathies in a letter to Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku of the Ghana Football Association. He described the attack as devastating and extended condolences to all those affected.

Authorities, including the Ghana Police Service, are actively investigating the incident. Officials have stressed the importance of bringing those responsible to justice, while the football community continues to grieve the loss of a promising young talent.
