Udupi, Apr 6: The Udupi Town police successfully traced and recovered 48 lost mobile phones and returned them to their rightful owners at the Town police station on Monday, April 6.

The recovery was made possible through complaints registered by citizens using the Karnataka State Police (KSP) mobile application and the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal. The beneficiaries had earlier reported the loss of their devices via the KSP app, enabling the police to initiate tracking and recovery operations.

Following these complaints, the police team traced and seized the missing devices. After completing necessary verification procedures, the phones were formally handed over to the respective owners.

The operation was carried out under the guidance of Udupi Superintendent of Police (SP) Hariram Shankar and DySP Belliappa, with PSI Eranna Shiragumpi and PSI Gopalkrishna Jogi leading the team.

Speaking on the occasion, PSI Eranna Shiragumpi urged the public to report lost or stolen mobile phones without delay. “If a mobile phone is stolen, it may be misused for criminal activities, making it vital to report the loss immediately at the nearest police station. Citizens should use the ‘e-Lost’ option in the KSP app to submit details and obtain an acknowledgement, which is necessary to get a duplicate SIM card. By uploading details on the CEIR portal, the phone can be blocked and its usage tracked. Similarly, if important documents are lost, a complaint should be filed promptly to avoid being held responsible for any potential misuse,” he said.
