Indian among two killed after missile debris falls in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi, Mar 26: One Indian national was killed and another injured after debris from an intercepted ballistic missile fell in a populated area on Thursday, authorities confirmed.

According to the Abu Dhabi Media Office, the incident resulted in the deaths of two individuals—one Indian and one Pakistani—while three others, including nationals of the UAE, Jordan, and India, sustained injuries ranging from moderate to serious.

The debris fell on Sweihan Street following the successful interception of a missile by the UAE’s air defence systems. Several vehicles were also damaged in the incident. Emergency teams responded quickly, and authorities have launched an investigation.

Officials urged residents to rely only on verified information and avoid spreading rumours. Earlier, authorities had reported the casualties without identifying the victims, confirming only that the debris had caused fatalities and injuries.

The situation comes amid escalating tensions in West Asia following the conflict that began after joint strikes by Israel and the United States on Iran, which resulted in the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and senior military officials.

In retaliation, Iran has launched missile and drone attacks targeting US and Israeli-linked sites across the region. The UAE Ministry of Defence said its air defence systems were actively intercepting incoming threats and clarified that loud sounds heard by residents were due to these interceptions.

Authorities have advised the public to strictly follow safety guidelines as the situation continues to evolve.
