IPL 2026: Jack Edwards ruled out with injury; SRH face early setback

Hyderabad, Mar 20: Jack Edwards has been ruled out of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 after suffering a foot injury, dealing a fresh blow to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

The 25-year-old seam-bowling allrounder, who was signed by SRH for Rs 3 crore at the last auction, was set to make his IPL debut this season. Notably, he was the only uncapped overseas player picked in the 2025 auction.

Edwards had impressed in the Big Bash League 2025–26 season, claiming 19 wickets and scoring 133 runs in 13 matches for Sydney Sixers. He made his international debut for Australia national cricket team shortly after, in a T20I against Pakistan national cricket team in Perth, though it was a modest outing.

Edwards’ absence adds to SRH’s concerns, with regular captain Pat Cummins also set to miss the start of the season due to a lumbar stress injury. Wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan is expected to lead the side in his absence.

The injury is part of a broader trend affecting Australian fast bowlers, with Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, and Nathan Ellis also dealing with fitness issues impacting their IPL participation.

SRH are scheduled to play the season opener on March 28 in Bengaluru against defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
