Sumit Antil clinches gold, India dominates Para Athletics Grand Prix 2026

New Delhi, Mar 13: India showcased a stellar performance on Day 2 of the World Para Athletics Grand Prix 2026 in New Delhi, with Sumit Antil winning gold in the Men’s Javelin Throw with a throw of 69.25 metres. Fellow Indian Pushpendra Singh claimed silver (56.91m), while Poonam Ram secured bronze (49.48m).

The track events saw Indian athletes continue their dominance. In the Men’s 400m Run T13, Subodh Bhatt took gold in 51.88 seconds, Priyanshu Kaushik silver (53.19s), and Avnil Kumar bronze (56.91s). In Men’s 400m Run T46/T47, Bhavikkumar Din Bharwad won gold (49.89s) with Jasbeer closely taking silver (50.09s). India also swept the Men’s 400m Run T53/T54 wheelchair category with Manojkumar Sabapathi (54.33s), Anil Kumar (57.57s), and Manikandan Jothi (1:01.94).

Indian women shone as well. In the Women’s 400m Run T11/T12, Tejalben Amraji Damor clinched gold (57.53s), Lalitha Killaka silver (1:07.92), and Shalini Chaudhary bronze (1:16.79). In field events, Lakshmi won Women’s Shot Put gold (7.76m), Akutai Sitaram Ulbhagat silver (5.49m), and Chimi Dema of Bhutan bronze (5.27m).

India’s dominance continued in jumps and throws. The Men’s Long Jump T42/T63 saw Shaliesh Kumar gold (5.47m), Ramsingbhai Govindbhai Padhiyar silver (4.68m), and Solairaj Jagannathan bronze (3.23m). In Men’s Shot Put F46, Rohit Kumar won gold (14.35m), Devendra Singh Gurjar silver (13.97m), and Lokesh Akula bronze (10.92m).

The performances highlighted India’s growing strength in para athletics, with multiple podium sweeps underscoring the country’s excellence across track and field events.
