Bengaluru, Mar 3: The countdown to IPL 2026 has intensified in Bengaluru, with the city set to host the opening ceremony, five home matches of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the playoffs and the final.
The iconic M Chinnaswamy Stadium has been confirmed as a key venue, staging not only RCB’s league fixtures but also the tournament’s marquee events. After detailed deliberations, authorities cleared the stadium to conduct the IPL 2026 opening ceremony, five RCB home games, and the knockout matches, including the title clash.

The decision comes months after the June 4, 2025 stampede in Bengaluru during celebrations for RCB’s maiden IPL title triumph, which claimed 11 lives and left over 30 injured. In the wake of the tragedy, officials have tightened crowd management protocols for the upcoming season.
Authorities are reviewing entry and exit arrangements, strengthening ticketing controls, and enhancing on-ground security deployment. Additional personnel will be stationed at key access points during high-profile matches to prevent overcrowding. Emergency response systems are also being reassessed to ensure faster coordination between stadium authorities, police and medical teams in case of any untoward incidents.
Known for its batting-friendly surface and electrifying atmosphere, Chinnaswamy will once again serve as RCB’s fortress. The franchise is scheduled to play five of its league-stage matches at the venue and will look to capitalise on strong home support.
Bengaluru’s selection as host for the opening ceremony further elevates its prominence on the IPL calendar. The curtain-raiser is expected to attract a packed crowd, setting the tone for the season. The Board of Control for Cricket in India has also entrusted the stadium with hosting the playoffs and the final, ensuring that IPL 2026 will culminate in the Karnataka capital.
While Bengaluru remains RCB’s primary base, the franchise will also take two of its league fixtures to Raipur this season, expanding its reach to fans in central India.
With the opener, five home matches and the tournament finale scheduled at Chinnaswamy, Bengaluru is poised to be at the heart of IPL 2026.
