Anekal auto-rickshaw driver's daughter who sold flowers overcomes poverty to become judge

Bengaluru, Mar 3: Proving that poverty is never a hurdle for those with unwavering determination, Nagini L from Anekal taluk has emerged as an inspiration by being selected as a civil judge. The daughter of an auto-rickshaw driver and a flower seller, Nagini’s journey from the streets of Thirupalya to the judicial bench is a testament to hard work and parental sacrifice.

Nagini’s success story is more dramatic than a movie script. Growing up in the small village of Thirupalya on the outskirts of Bengaluru, she witnessed her parents struggle daily to make ends meet. Her father, Lakshman, earns a living as an auto-rickshaw driver, while her mother, Manjula, sells flowers in the local market.

Even as a young child, Nagini would help her mother tie and sell flower garlands. Despite their dire financial situation, her parents never allowed their poverty to affect her education, envisioning a bright future for their daughter amidst their own hardships.

One of the most remarkable aspects of Nagini’s achievement is her educational background. She completed her schooling from Class 1 to 10 in a government school, studying entirely in the Kannada medium.

Refusing to let the lack of resources hold her back, she managed to balance her duties at home and her studies. She was often seen with a book in one hand while tying flowers with the other, proving that intellectual capacity is not defined by one's economic status.

After entering the legal profession as an advocate, Nagini remained focused on her ultimate goal of becoming a judge. Her mother, Manjula, expressed her joy, recalling how Nagini would go to school only after helping sell the flowers she had tied in the morning.

Her father, Lakshman, was visibly emotional about his daughter's milestone. "I used to drop her at college in my auto-rickshaw every day. Realising our struggle, she has made the entire village proud today. I wish for her to be a voice for the distressed from the judicial seat," he said.

Nagini’s journey serves as a beacon of hope for the youth who often feel discouraged by minor setbacks. By blossoming like a lotus in the heat of poverty, she has shown that with persistence, any dream is achievable.
