Beltangady, March 1: In a daring fraud that has left locals shocked, Venoor police have arrested a man for allegedly cheating a resident by promising to professionally polish their gold jewellery.
The incident, which occurred on February 10 in Panilaje village, Kashipatna, Beltangady taluk, saw the accused, posing as a salesman, convince the victim to hand over their gold, only to melt it using a chemical solution and flee.
The case has been registered under FIR No. 13/2026, Section 318(4) of BNS 2023 at Venoor police station.

Following a meticulous investigation, the police apprehended Chandan Kumar (30), a resident of Supaul district, Bihar. Approximately 7 grams of gold jewellery, valued at around Rs 75,000, were recovered from the accused. He has since been produced before the competent court.
Speaking about the operation, police sources said, “The accused was tracked down swiftly thanks to coordinated efforts by our team. The recovered jewellery has been secured, and the investigation is ongoing.”
The operation to locate and apprehend the fraudster was led by Venoor police sub-inspector Akshay Davgi and Oman N, with the support of ASI Venkatesh Naik, ASI Bennichan, head constables Krishna, Keshavati, police constables Basavaraj, Mohan, and Rakesh.
