Bengaluru, Feb 26: Deputy chief minister (DyCM) D K Shivakumar on Wednesday said that the state government’s five guarantee schemes have become a financial burden on the government.

Speaking after inaugurating the ‘Kusuma Sanjeevini’ programme, he said the guarantee schemes have placed a burden on the state exchequer. However, the government has continued the schemes in the interest of the people.

He stated that the guarantee schemes were implemented to ensure that people do not become mentally distressed during difficult times and that families receive financial security. These schemes are not merely financial assistance, but measures aimed at instilling confidence and courage among the people, he said.

Speaking on employment, he said the government is committed to corruption-free recruitment. The issue of filling vacant posts will be discussed in the Cabinet and appropriate steps will be taken, he added. He also alleged that several posts were left vacant due to irregularities during the tenure of the previous BJP government.

Recruitment responsibility has been entrusted to concerned institutions, including KPSC. Assistance is being extended to youth through various schemes, including Yuvanidhi, he said.

On infrastructure development, he said a target has been set to expand the metro network to 175 km by 2027.

Regarding double-decker flyovers, discussions are under way with the union ministry. Due to the lack of proper financial planning in previous tender processes, contractors are facing issues of pending payments. The present government is reviewing the matter to continue development works while maintaining financial discipline, he said.
