Udupi: 55-year-old man held in Malpe rag picker murder case

Udupi, Oct 4: Malpe police have arrested a 55-year-old man in connection with the murder of a scrap collector at the Babuthota dock area in Malpe.

The deceased has been identified as Parameshi alias Param Veli, a native of Andhra Pradesh. He had been collecting scrap materials in the port area and staying in the vacant space beside Malpe Marine Agency for the past three years.

According to the complaint, the agency owner closed the agency at around 7 pm on September 28 and left the premises. When he returned at around 8.30 am on September 29, he found Parameshi lying on a sack in a pool of blood in the vacant space beside the agency. Blood was seen flowing from a wound near his neck.

It was suspected that unidentified persons had attacked Parameshi with a weapon, fatally injuring him sometime between 7 pm on September 28 and 8.30 am on September 29, allegedly over personal enmity.

A case was registered at Malpe police station under Crime No. 107/2026, invoking Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Following the investigation, police arrested the accused, identified as Arogya Das alias Kami (55), a resident of Hubballi, from the outskirts of Hubballi.

The operation was conducted under the guidance of Udupi sub-divisional police officer Belliyappa K U and Malpe circle inspector Ramachandra Naik.

Malpe police station PSI Anil Kumar D, along with head constables Vishwanath and Adarsha and constable Kubera, were part of the team that carried out the operation.
