Mangaluru, Feb 23: Kadri police, who detected a case of illegal and cruel transportation of cattle in a lorry, have rescued 34 cows.
Acting on credible information, the police conducted an operation on Sunday and intercepted a lorry on National Highway 66 that was transporting cattle from Shivamogga to Hosangadi in Kerala via Mangaluru, and carried out an inspection.
Three accused persons who were in the lorry have been arrested. The accused have been identified as Dastagir Saab, Khateeb Pasha, and Ayub Khan, all from Periyapatna in Mysuru district.

During the investigation, it was found that they had planned to slaughter the cows in Hosangadi and supply the meat. A case has been registered against the accused under the Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Cattle Preservation Act and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, police sources said.
