Puttur, Feb 12: The Dakshina Kannada district cyber crime police have arrested a man in connection with an online fraud case where a resident of Puttur was cheated of over Rs 2.37 lac.
The arrested accused has been identified as Avinash Ramesh Gowda (24), a native of Maharashtra currently residing in Krishnarajapet, Mandya.

According to the complaint filed by Yashodhara, a resident of Puttur, an unknown person had contacted him from various mobile numbers claiming to be a representative of an insurance company. The caller initially pressured the complainant to purchase a new insurance policy and pay the premium. When Yashodhara refused the offer, the accused claimed he would help cancel the existing insurance process.
Under this pretext, the fraudster managed to obtain the complainant's credit card details and OTP. Using this sensitive information, the accused illegally transferred Rs 2,37,036 from the complainant's credit card to a different account.
Based on the complaint, a case was registered at the Dakshina Kannada district cyber crime police station under Crime No. 52/2025, U/S 66(D) of the IT Act and 318(4), 319(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The police team, after conducting a thorough investigation, apprehended the accused on February 11. He was produced before the honorable court, which has remanded him to judicial custody.
