Panaji, Jan 3: Heavy crowds at Goa’s beaches during the New Year celebrations led to several rescue operations along the coastline on January 1, with lifesavers stepping in to prevent serious mishaps.

According to Drishti Marine, a 53-year-old tourist from England was injured after being stung by a stingray while swimming off Mobor beach. Lifeguards quickly attended to the man, administering first aid at the spot before transferring him to emergency medical services for further treatment.

In another incident at Arambol, a 19-year-old woman from Maharashtra had to be rescued after she began struggling while swimming in the area’s popular sweet-water lake. Prompt action by the lifesaving team ensured her safe return to shore.

Lifeguards were also alerted to trouble in the sea involving two men in their mid-20s from Karnataka who were unable to stay afloat while swimming.

Lifesaver Umesh Madaikar used a jet ski to reach and safely pull both men out of the water. At the same beach, a 20-year-old tourist from Bihar was rescued after he found himself unable to swim back to the shore.

Separately, a 10-year-old boy from Pune suffered a deep cut on his right leg after stepping on broken glass while swimming. He was immediately treated at a nearby lifesaver tower, where first aid was administered.

Authorities once again urged beachgoers to follow safety advisories and remain within designated swimming zones to avoid accidents during peak tourist periods.
