Ranchi, Dec 24: Teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi produced a breathtaking performance to stun the cricketing fraternity, smashing a blistering century off just 36 balls in the Vijay Hazare Trophy Plate Group match against Arunachal Pradesh at the JSCA Oval Ground here.

The 14-year-old Bihar batter’s explosive knock has now gone down as the second fastest List A century by an Indian, rewriting records and turning a routine domestic fixture into a headline-grabbing spectacle. The innings came just days after Suryavanshi’s disappointment in the U-19 Asia Cup final against Pakistan, marking a remarkable comeback.

Suryavanshi’s 36-ball hundred slots just behind Punjab’s Anmolpreet Singh, who holds the Indian record with a 35-ball ton. Globally, the list is led by Jake Fraser-McGurk (29 balls) and AB de Villiers (31 balls), placing the young Indian among elite company. He has also become the youngest centurion in List A cricket.

Displaying fearless intent, Suryavanshi went on to compile a sensational 190 runs off just 84 deliveries, hammering 16 fours and 15 sixes in a knock that dismantled the Arunachal Pradesh bowling attack. His strike rate resembled that of a T20 match, despite the contest being a 50-over fixture.

The young prodigy was also on course to challenge the record for the fastest List A double century but fell short of the milestone. The overall record remains with Chad Bowes, who reached his double ton in 103 balls, while the Vijay Hazare Trophy record is held by Narayan Jagadeesan, who achieved the feat in 114 balls in 2022.

Notably, during his rampage, Suryavanshi bettered AB de Villiers’ fastest 150 in List A cricket by a margin of 10 deliveries. His 15 sixes in the innings is now the most by an Indian batter in List A cricket.

With this extraordinary knock, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has firmly announced his arrival on the domestic stage, underlining his potential as one of Indian cricket’s brightest young prospects.
