New Delhi, Dec 16: India’s young para badminton contingent produced a standout performance at the Dubai 2025 Asian Youth Para Games, clinching eight gold medals and finishing with an impressive overall tally of 17 medals, including three silver and six bronze.
Leading the charge was Jatin Azad, whose calm and assured play became the hallmark of India’s campaign. Competing in the SU5 category, Azad claimed two gold medals — first in men’s singles and then in men’s doubles alongside Shivam Yadav. The duo displayed excellent coordination and composure in high-pressure situations, underlining the strength of their partnership.

Reflecting on his success, Azad said his ambitions extend well beyond the Games in Dubai. He spoke of his desire to compete regularly at the highest level to gain experience and exposure, expressing confidence that sustained growth would pave the way for his selection to the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympics.
India’s dominance was reinforced by strong mental resilience across the squad. Gold medallist Harshit Choudhary highlighted the importance of preparation and a positive mindset, noting that he and his partner remained focused and confident even during the most testing phases of the tournament.
The Dubai Games marked a significant milestone, as it was the first Asian Youth Para Games for all Indian para badminton players. The strong medal haul not only underscored their talent but also provided valuable competitive exposure as they begin their long-term build-up towards LA28.
Azad’s achievements have already made him a source of inspiration for aspiring para athletes. Emphasising perseverance, he encouraged young players to take the first step, train diligently and give their best, assuring that results would follow.
While India celebrated a landmark outing, the competition also showcased the rising standard of para badminton across Asia. Indonesia’s Afghanie As Sakha claimed gold in the men’s singles SL4 category after an intense final against Indian opponents. Admitting to nerves, Afghanie credited his coach for boosting his confidence and acknowledged the strength and fighting spirit of the Indian team following his memorable victory.
