Mangaluru, Dec 9: St Agnes School CBSE, in association with the Mangalore Endocrine and Diabetes Society and Father Muller Medical College Hospital, organized an enriching awareness programme titled 'Staying sweet the right way – Childhood diabetes and obesity'. The event aimed to educate students, parents, and teachers on emerging health concerns, focusing on prevention, early detection, and the importance of daily healthy habits.
The programme began with a warm welcome, followed by a meaningful prayer service led by the students. The school was privileged to host Dr Sowrabha Bhat, associate professor of endocrinology at Yenepoya Medical College Hospital, as the chief resource person. Dr Bhat delivered an engaging session covering essential topics such as the causes of childhood obesity, early signs of diabetes, the role of balanced nutrition, the importance of physical activity, screen-time management, and how lifestyle choices made in childhood shape long-term wellbeing. She also emphasised practical, child-friendly steps that families can adopt to prevent lifestyle-related diseases.

As part of the initiative, a comprehensive health assessment was conducted for each student. This included BMI measurement, basic health screening, nutritional evaluation, and personalised feedback. Students were provided with brief individual health reports, enabling parents to understand their child’s wellness status and areas of improvement. This assessment added immense value to the programme by promoting early awareness and encouraging families to adopt healthier routines.
A floral welcome was offered to Dr Bhat and to the assisting team members from Sun Pharma, who supported the event through their school health awareness initiative.
The programme concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks, expressing deep gratitude to Dr Sowrabha Bhat for her enlightening session and guidance, to the Sun Pharma team for their valuable assistance, and to Dr Sudeep for his initiative. Appreciation was also extended to principal Sr Maria Sarika for organizing the event and to coordinator Sr Lavishanthi for her constant support. The participation of parents, teachers, and students added great value, making the session truly meaningful and impactful. Overall, the programme successfully reinforced the importance of mindful living, healthy habits, and proactive wellness among young learners.
