Panaji, Dec 6: In a remarkable achievement for Goa Police, Bicholim Police Station has been recognised as the fifth best police station in India for the year 2025 by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, based on outstanding performance in crime control, detection, and overall policing standards.
Under the leadership of PI Vijay Rane, SDPO Shridevi B V, and the then SP North Rahul Gupta, Bicholim Police Station consistently maintained strong results in crime detection and effective law enforcement. Significant improvements to police infrastructure were also carried out over the past six months, including establishment of a child-friendly room, a gymnasium, hygienic barracks, and a quality canteen for staff. These enhancements were among the key parameters evaluated during the independent survey conducted by the Ministry in September.

Goa Police stated that the national-level recognition stands as a proud moment for the force and the State’s Home Department. Chief Minister and Home Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant lauded the achievement, saying that the ranking reflects the government’s commitment to robust vigilance and citizen-centric policing.
Police presence and security measures across Bicholim and Sanquelim have been intensified through frequent foot patrols and mobile patrolling with motorcycles and PCR vehicles in busy public spaces such as markets, bus stands, and industrial zones. Authorities said that daily patrol deployment also focuses on enforcement of minor violations including COTPA, smoking, spitting, and garbage-related acts.
During the current year, Bicholim Police booked 570 cases under COTPA, 589 under garbage violations, and around 700 cases related to smoking and spitting. Additionally, 117 cases were registered against individuals consuming alcohol in public, with arrests made in all such instances.
As part of preventive policing measures, six history-sheeters and one identified bad character have been placed under regular monthly verification to ensure monitoring of their activities. The station has also prioritized community engagement by holding awareness programmes in schools, colleges, and among senior citizens, focusing on cybercrime safety, road discipline, and the harmful effects of drug abuse.
Preventive action has resulted in the arrest of 102 persons under Section 170 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, for allegedly planning cognizable offences before execution, reinforcing proactive initiatives in maintaining law and order.
