Woman lawyer escorted out after chaotic scenes in Supreme Court

New Delhi, Dec 4: Tense moments erupted inside the Supreme Court on Wednesday when a woman lawyer was removed from the Chief Justice’s courtroom following repeated interruptions during proceedings.

The incident occurred before a bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Ujjal Bhuyan and NK Singh. The lawyer insisted on urgently mentioning a matter not listed for the day, claiming that her close friend had been murdered in a Delhi guest house while she was in Mumbai. She also alleged that the police officer who initially refused to register the FIR was now heading the investigation.

CJI Kant advised her to file a proper petition, to which she replied that she was “in depression” but would comply. Despite this, she remained at the front and continued speaking even as the next case was called, leading to disruptions.

The bench requested another advocate to assist her with filing the petition, but she refused to step back. When court marshals moved to escort her out, she resisted and told them not to touch her. Justice Bhuyan and fellow lawyers attempted to calm her, urging her to respect courtroom decorum, but she persisted, saying she wanted to ensure the court heard her concerns regarding her safety.

With the situation escalating, the live stream of the courtroom was briefly muted. She was later escorted out, after which the bench resumed proceedings.
