Ola Electric refutes reports of Tech Leak, calls allegations ‘Baseless & Misleading’

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Nov 10: Ola Electric Mobility Ltd. has strongly refuted media reports alleging its involvement in a technology leak linked to a former LG Energy Solution executive, terming the claims “misleading and completely baseless.”

In a statement, the company clarified that the alleged “pouch cell technology” mentioned in the reports is neither part of its research focus nor relevant to its commercial plans. Ola said its flagship 4680 Bharat Cell is based on advanced dry electrode technology, underscoring its commitment to indigenous innovation.

“The media reports alleging technology intrigue involving Ola Electric, casting unfounded aspersions on the company’s world-class battery innovation capabilities, are misleading and completely baseless,” the company stated in an exchange filing.

Ola further said that the South Korean publication’s claims — suggesting that a former LG executive attempted to pass on pouch cell intellectual property to Ola Electric — are untrue and ill-timed. The company noted that the “insidious” report surfaced just as its 4680 Bharat Cell entered commercial production, marking a major milestone for India’s electric mobility ecosystem.

The 4680 Bharat Cell, India’s first indigenous large-format cell, directly competes with Korean battery manufacturers in the domestic market. Ola alleged that “fear of losing market opportunities” has led foreign rivals to question its breakthrough innovation. “The timing of this selective leak to South Korean media, and its swift, unverified replication by a section of the Indian press, appears dubious at best,” the statement added.

Reiterating its credentials, Ola Electric highlighted that it has filed 720 patents, of which 124 have been granted. Its Battery Innovation Centre (BIC) in Bengaluru houses over 250 experts from top global cell technology firms. The company’s cell manufacturing arm, Ola Cell Technologies, has also established India’s first operational Gigafactory with a cumulative investment of Rs 2,500 crore.

With the commercial rollout of the 4680 Bharat Cell, Ola said it remains focused on scaling domestic manufacturing and strengthening India’s position in the global EV battery supply chain.
