New Delhi, Oct 22: India's Diwali trade this year reached historic highs, with industry leaders hailing the Rs 6.05 lac crore sales figure as a strong indicator of rising consumer confidence, fueled by the 'Made in India' movement and recent economic reforms under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership.
A nationwide survey by the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) revealed this was India’s highest-ever Diwali trade, pointing to a growing preference for domestic products and an uptick in festive spending.
Harvansh Chawla, chairman of the BRICS Chamber of Commerce & Industry, described the economic activity as “unprecedented,” crediting Modi’s vision for reviving the Indian manufacturing spirit. “We’ve never witnessed such a Diwali in terms of energy and sales. This is just the beginning—the impact of ‘Made in India’ will become even more visible over the next year,” he said.

Backing the view, PHDCCI CEO Ranjeet Mehta noted that GST reforms ahead of the festive season played a pivotal role in easing business operations and stimulating demand. “Around 80% of goods sold this Diwali were Indian-made, which is a tremendous step forward in today’s fragmented global trade climate,” Mehta said.
In Kolkata, Bharat Chamber of Commerce president Naresh Pachisia attributed the surge to both pent-up demand and a timely reduction in GST on consumption goods. “We haven’t seen this level of consumer activity in years. The policy decisions clearly helped businesses gear up for an explosive festive season,” he said.
Rajeev Juneja, president of PHDCCI, underscored the importance of sustaining this momentum, especially for MSMEs. “The vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’ hinges on empowering small businesses. It’s our responsibility to create the right ecosystem where small industries can grow into larger, global players,” he said.
Across India, the sentiment among traders is overwhelmingly positive, with Diwali 2025 being hailed as not just a festival of lights—but one of economic revival.
