Mumbai, Oct 4: Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has called for swift and high-quality completion of all infrastructure projects related to the upcoming Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027, emphasizing that the event is a deep-rooted symbol of India’s spiritual, cultural, and religious heritage.
Chairing a high-level review meeting, Fadnavis underscored the urgency of executing key developmental works with both efficiency and attention to detail. “The Kumbh Mela reflects the faith of millions. We must ensure that every project—from roads to sanitation—is completed on time, with top-notch quality,” he said.
Among the top priorities, the chief minister highlighted the immediate need to complete Nashik’s new ring road, stressing that delays will not be tolerated. He also instructed that land acquisition for the Sadhu Village (Tent City) be wrapped up without delay.
To maintain the sanctity of Ramkund and the river during the Mela, Fadnavis directed that water quality must be preserved throughout the event. He also placed a strong emphasis on cleanliness, stating that all sewage and sanitation works should be treated as urgent and completed on priority.
Improvements at airports and railway stations are also to be fast-tracked, with a focus on visitor convenience and infrastructure readiness.
“Funds must be released by concerned departments without delay. We must ensure that citizens are not inconvenienced due to pending roadwork. The needs of saints and spiritual groups in Sadhugram should be addressed through consultations with various akharas,” he added.
Fadnavis further emphasized the need for centralized surveillance through CCTV installation and urged the use of artificial intelligence tools to maintain law and order. He also directed that police housing arrangements be made in a timely manner.
Pushing for a modern approach to outreach, the chief minister proposed the creation of a "Digital Kumbh" strategy to boost event publicity. He advised that media teams be ready to issue factual clarifications in case of any negative coverage and that recruitment for Kumbh-related tasks at the district level be expedited.
Deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde echoed the sentiment, stressing the need to complete all pending projects at the earliest. His counterpart, deputy CM Ajit Pawar, called for ensuring all development work reflects the scale and significance of the Kumbh Mela.
Food and Civil Supplies minister Chhagan Bhujbal added that maintaining the purity of river water during and beyond the Kumbh should be a long-term goal.
School Education minister Dada Bhuse recommended fast-tracking development in pilgrimage sites around Nashik, leveraging the momentum of the Kumbh preparations.
Water Resources minister Girish Mahajan assured that all roads will be repaired before the event and insisted that sewerage works be completed within strict timelines.
With leadership across departments aligned on priorities, the Maharashtra government is poised to transform Nashik’s spiritual heartland into a model for religious tourism and urban planning ahead of the 2027 Kumbh Mela.
