The "Hernia Awareness Month" at KMC Hospital holds special significance for Mangaluru, as it brings focused attention to a condition that is often overlooked until it becomes serious. By offering free screenings and affordable treatment packages, the hospital is making advanced medical care accessible to the local community. This initiative not only spreads awareness but also ensures that residents of Mangaluru can take timely action, improve their quality of life, and prevent future complications arising from untreated hernias.

Speaking about the initiative, Dr Avinash K, laprascopic surgeon said, “Many people ignore the early signs of a hernia, assuming it is a minor issue. Left untreated, however, hernias can lead to serious complications. Through this awareness month, we aim to highlight the importance of early screening and ensure that patients have easy access to timely consultations and treatment.”

Hernia is often overlooked, with many people mistakenly identifying the condition as a harmless lump or swelling. However, untreated hernias can grow in size, cause persistent pain, and eventually interfere with everyday comfort and mobility.

Typical signs of a hernia may include a lump or swelling in the abdomen or groin region, discomfort or heaviness around the lump, a burning or aching sensation, or a protrusion that becomes more prominent while coughing, bending, or lifting. Over time, the lump may increase in size, accompanied by weakness in the abdominal muscles and, in some cases, changes in the overlying skin.

With this campaign, KMC Hospital reinforces its commitment to preventive healthcare by creating awareness about hernia and offering practical solutions for timely intervention.
