Miami, Sep 26: Football fans around the world bid farewell to an era as Sergio Busquets, the legendary Barcelona and Spain midfielder, has announced that he will retire at the end of the 2025 Major League Soccer (MLS) season.
The 37-year-old Inter Miami star shared the news through an emotional video on Instagram.
“These will be my last months on the pitch. I’m retiring very happy, proud, fulfilled, and above all grateful. A heartfelt thank you to everyone and to football for everything. You will always be a part of this beautiful story,” Busquets said.

Renowned for his elegance, composure, and tactical brilliance, Busquets is celebrated as one of the finest defensive midfielders in football history.
During his glittering club career with FC Barcelona, he was instrumental in securing nine La Liga titles and three UEFA Champions League trophies.
On the international stage, Busquets was pivotal to Spain’s golden generation, helping his nation lift the 2010 FIFA World Cup and the 2012 UEFA Euro Championship, earning 143 caps for Spain before retiring from international duty after the 2022 World Cup.
Having joined Inter Miami in 2023, Busquets reunited with former teammate Lionel Messi in the MLS, continuing to showcase his vision and leadership on the field.
