Pune records 2,291 dengue cases amid rising concern

Pune, Oct 25: Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram on Saturday reviewed measures to control the rising incidence of dengue after an eight-year-old child in Lohegaon died in a suspected dengue-related case a few days ago.

Ram visited Dr Naidu Hospital in Baner to assess the dengue situation, hospital bed availability and preventive measures being implemented by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).

He appealed to citizens not to panic and urged those experiencing dengue symptoms to seek medical attention promptly.

According to a press note issued by the PMC on Saturday, the city recorded 2,291 dengue cases between January and October 20 this year.

Civic authorities attributed the rise in mosquito breeding to changing weather conditions, increased construction activity, water storage during supply disruptions and stagnant water in plant pots.

The PMC has urged residents to take preventive measures and eliminate stagnant water around their homes to curb mosquito breeding and reduce the risk of dengue transmission.
